“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” - Jn 14:6. Over the last two weeks we have discussed the fact that Jesus Christ is The Way and The Truth. He is not a way or a truth. He is not one of many ways, nor one of many truths. He is the only way to The Father. He is the highway, the gate, the door, the route, the means. You will not get to The Father, but by The Son. He is The Truth, The living Word of God: God made flesh. You cannot say Jesus is one of many truths; because if anyone claims to speak the truth, yet contradicts what Jesus says, he is speaking a lie. There is one truth; and His name is Jesus.
This week, we will finish up this series by looking into the fact that Jesus is The Life. We see in Genesis 2:7 that God is the original giver of life. Life is His alone to give. Jesus confirmed this in John 10:18, when He said that no one takes His life from Him. He lays it down, and He takes it up again. No one gives life to, nor takes life from, Almighty God. He is the life giver. In John 1:1-4, we see that in Jesus, The living Word of God, is life. He came to give us, the human race, eternal life. Not just life, but abundant life (Jn 10:10)! The word abundant means “above and beyond, more than necessary, excessive”. Praise God, Jesus gives us abundant life!
Jesus is our life (Col 3:4, Act 17:28). Jesus is the bread of life (Jn 6:48). Intimate knowledge of Jesus is eternal life (Jn 17:3). Jesus is the light of life (Jn 8:12). Jesus is the Prince of life (Act 3:15). Jesus is the Word of life (1Jn 1:1). Jesus gives the water of life (Rev 22:1, 17). In John 4:14, Jesus tells the woman at the well, that whoever will drink of the water He gives will never thirst again! There’s an old commercial that says “Snickers satisfies”, but we all know it only lasts for a little while, until you get the next grumbly in your tumbly. Jesus, on the other hand, truly satisfies; and when you drink the Water of Life, you’ll never thirst again!
Jesus possesses The Spirit of life (Rev 11:11, Rom 8:2). Jesus owns The Book of Life (Rev 21:27). It is of the utmost importance that your name is written in The Book of Life. However, it is The Lamb’s book. The Lamb of God is Jesus (Jn 1:29). You don’t get your name written in His book, without talking to Him first. Don’t think you can come into God’s presence and bypass The Lamb. In the Old Testament Tabernacle, the sacrifice was the first thing you saw when you came into the courtyard. There was no way around it. It was, of course, a type of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the tree of life (Rev 22:2, 14; Gen 3:22). Whoever eats of that tree lives forever. Taste and see that The Lord is good (Ps 34:8). The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is the life. John 3:36 says “He that believeth in the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” 1Jn 5:11-12 says “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. The life of God is in Jesus, so if you have Jesus, you have life. If you don’t have Jesus, you don’t have life. No Jesus, no life. Know Jesus, know life.
I pray this series has strengthened your faith, and encouraged you to stand strong on The Word of Truth. If Jesus is not who He says He is, then I’d be the first to throw my Bible in the trash, and stop wasting my time in church. I’d encourage you to eat, drink, and be merry; for tomorrow you die (1Cor 15:32). But I can’t do it, because I know The Truth. Jesus is more real than anything your five senses can handle. The Bible is The living Word of God, and The absolute Truth. Jesus is who He says He is: The Way, The Truth, and The Life. Until next time, rejoice in the Lord! (Phip 4:4)
