Speak Up For Kids
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 • Posted November 18, 2008

Join former UT football heroes, Johnny “Lam” Jones, and Johnny “Ham” Jones, at the CASA Speak Up for Kids 5K & Fun Day at Johnson Park on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Funds raised will benefit CASA, a nonprofit organization that serves children in Burnet, Blanco, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba counties that have been removed from their homes by the state due to abuse and neglect.

Events kick off with the Kids K at 8:00am, and the 5K at 8:15am. Families are encouraged to bring their children to the park to enjoy a day of live music from 9:30am to 3:00pm at the Outdoor Pavilion. Ant Hill Society (home of Texas soul) performs from 9:30am to 11:30am. Marble Falls’ own, Daniel Conti with Drawing Back (classic rock & blues) will play from noon to 3:00pm. Refreshments will be for sale.

Drawings for giveaways will take place throughout the day. Prizes include gift cards from: Cheesecake Factory, Austin Park n’ Pizza, Rockhopper’s, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Texas Spirit Theater, Everett’s Furniture Emporium in San Saba, Suzy Q’s, and Build-A-Bear “Cub Cash”.

“Lam” Jones will have a booth selling framed & autographed landscape photo of the Longhorns' dramatic National Championship. This 10 X 8" landscape photo of the UT Tower is matted and framed in a 14x11" frame, signed by one of the best athletes to play for the Longhorns, would make a great gift for yourself or a friend. Jones set records in football and track at Lampasas High, went on to run the fastest 100 meters in the world, and won an Olympic Gold Medal before he even entered the University of Texas as a freshman in 1976. Jones has graciously offered to donate $25.00 from each framed work sold to CASA; 100% of remaining proceeds will go directly to help Jones’ treatments and fight against a rare form of cancer.
