MASONS TREAT BLANCO TO ANOTHER TURKEY MEAL
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 • Posted November 18, 2008

WE CARE, SO WE SHARE. That’s the main theme of Blanco Masonic Lodge’s annual Care & Share Dinner. This is to remind all in and around Blanco that the 18th annual Ernest R Davis Memorial Masonic Care and Share Dinner will be held Saturday, November 22nd at the Blanco Masonic Lodge at 11th and Main.

Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and all the works will be served in the lodge’s dining room starting at 11:00 a.m. Masons will deliver meals that day to those normally receiving the Meal on Wheels and to others who are homebound. Call 833-4164 after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday if you need to have a meal delivered.

The annual Care and Share Dinner began in 1991 when several Masons thought it would be well to show the community they care and therefore wish to share by catering a tasty full meal to community members. Now 17 years later the same is true. There is no charge and the order of the day will be to “come as you are and eat well”.

Chris Christian, this year’s Lodge Master, emphasizes that the main intent of Care & Share is for Blanco citizenry to break bread and socialize. He added, “Everyone is welcome to come dine with us and at the same time visit with their friends”. Dobie Benson is this year’s project leader and wants everyone to know that the Masons will do what is needed to provide a fine meal and a good time.

The name of the late Ernest R Davis, Jr was added to the event in 2001 because the Lodge wanted to remember the dedication and devotion this fine Mason and his wife Marilyn had for the event. Marilyn Davis still helps every year and, assisted by Leona Van De Velde, will be preparing the food as usual. Care & Share wouldn’t be what it is without both Marilyn and Leona.

Local community support by Blanco Masonic Lodge also includes among other activities the annual “Take Time To Read” Program in the Blanco Elementary School that has just completed, scholarships for Blanco High School graduating seniors, cleanup of a section of US Highway 281 North, a children’s playground at Yett Park, the annual Classic Car Show that takes place the third Saturday in May and now working in the annual Lavender Fest held in mid-June each year.

If you would like more information on the Care & Share Dinner or perhaps to learn more about the great fraternity of Masonry, call Lodge Master Chris Christian at 833-4407 or Dobie Benson at 833-5348 or contact any other Mason you may know.
