School Band Will March in League Contest

November 22, 1968

The Blanco High School Band directed by Billy Harrell will enter the Region XI, University Interscholastic League, Marching Contest in Del Rio this Saturday, November 23.

The Blanco Band will hope to repeat their first division performances of the previous two years and make it three in a row.

The judges for this year’s contest will be Herb Karnau of Karnes City, Dan Schreiber of San Antonio, and Bob Lewis of San Antonio.

Little archery impact on deer

November 24, 1978

Austin – The Robin Hoods of Texas had another good deer season this year, but as usual they didn’t put much of a dent in the Kingdom’s deer herd.

About 18,000 archers took advantages of the month-long October archery season this year and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials estimate they harvested the usual 2,000 or so deer with longbows and arrows.

Pancake completes training

Irene D. Pancake of Blanco has just returned from Los Angeles, California where she completed two weeks of intense training at the home office of Merle Norman Cosmetics. While there, Mrs. Pancake learned the newest fashion makeup artistry techniques, and the latest procedure and products for effective skin care.

Blanco Theatre Reopens Friday

November 22, 1968

The Blanco Theater will reopen this weekend under the management of Mrs. Gloria Murrah and her children. Dan and Tom Murrah will operate the equipment and Nancy Murrah will operate the concession stand while Mrs. Murrah will serve as manager.

The show will open for business Friday evening at 6:15 p.m. and the first show will start at 6:30 p.m. The film which will be shown at this time is “The Big Gun-Down” staring Lee Van Cleef.

The next show will then be shown on Sunday with the box-office opening at 2:45 p.m. and a 3:00 p.m. showing of “Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows.” Starring in this movie will be Rosalind Russell and Stella Stevens.

After this week, shows will be scheduled regularly on Friday – Saturday, and on Sunday.

Local CWU rep back from trip

November 24, 1978

New York – Sheila Wordsworth of Blanco has returned from attending a leadership seminar on the “International Year of the Child ’79" held at the United Nations in New York City, November 8 – 10.

Mrs. Wordsworth, representing Church Women United in Texas, participated with women of 37 states and eight foreign countries.
