Annual Lights Spectacular Huge Success
Wednesday, December 10, 2008 • Posted December 9, 2008

“Magical night... Wonderful family event... Can’t wait to come back... Great adventure... WOW!” Just a few of the many responses to the 19th year of Lights Spectacular, Hill Country Style. The “Spectacular” fireworks were presented by Chester Davis. We are grateful to Judge Guthrie and the JCVFD for allowing the “show to go on”. The children helped Santa off the roof with their magic, while the adults waited for Julia Langenberger to perform her aerial dance. Only in Johnson City can you ask someone on Thanksgiving Day to deliver a lift for an aerial dancer, Mike Stewart did just that

“Very professional, organized; best one yet”, kudos to Lisa Lusk and Vicki Ralph for stepping in at the last minute for “Parade 101”. The Chuckwagon Food Court is as instrumental to Lights as is the Courthouse. The winners of the “Best Decorated” booth were, Grand Prize - Athletic Boosters, 1st - NBCEMS and 2nd - Stonewall Headstart. We love your spirit. Joycelynn Carter and her Merry Crafters are still producing those wonderful one of a kind ornaments. “We come every year to buy an ornament”.

The billboards look wonderful; Cheryl & Lewis Eckonrode, Sam, Felix, John, Alton Moreland, Mike Stewart and Porter Dunnaway braved the wind to install them. Everything would be at ladder height if it weren’t for Pedernales Electric allowing the use of their equipment and employees to hang lights and banners. Sara and Jana at the Visitor’s Center are an awesome duo. They helped me stay on track and answered those thousands of emails and calls with excitement and enthusiasm. Chelita Riley and Kelly Carper Polden were the power force behind the advertising and press releases. Of course, the GO TEXAN grant in conjunction with the City, allowed us to share Lights Spectacular, Hill Country Style with millions. Johnson City was on KVUE and CNN. If you missed either broadcast they can be viewed on KVUE.com or CNN.com.

The biggest thank you goes to everyone in Johnson City, our friends and families for making our town the “Spirit of Christmas” with your decorated homes and businesses, your moral support and your belief in the Season. Johnson City has become the place to be Thanksgiving weekend. ‘’Beautiful, friendly, safe, got me in the Christmas Spirit”. Merry Christmas and God Bless from the Board of Lights Spectacular, Hill Country Style.
