Local Cheese Maker to Host Free Tasting
Wednesday, January 9, 2008 • Posted January 8, 2008

Crissy and Adriane from CKC Farms of Blanco will be letting customers sample their fresh and aged cheeses this Friday from 1 to 4 PM at Real Foods Market (north side of the Blanco Square).

You may remember the BCN article several years back that told about a Blanco High School student who had started her own goat dairy and was making several cheeses.

Well, this young woman is now a sophomore at Texas State (majoring in international business), and has had articles in a couple of magazines and several large newspapers, including the Houston Chronicle. And she has developed her own unique delicacy - she calls it Baby Bleu.

In addition to three versions of Chevre, a soft, fresh cheese, CKC Farms markets a Feta, Seasoned Feta (in olive oil), Crissy's own Baby Bleu, and Caprino, a buttery, sharpish cheese with a rind. Last month's "party season" wiped out her stock of cheeses, but she and her beloved goats are back on track with production. To thank her customers (and bring in new ones, too), Crissy is returning to her very first retail account (Real Foods) to offer this free tasting.

CKC Farms' locally-made cheeses are available at Real Foods Market in Blanco, McCall Creek Farms between Blanco and Johnson City, and are on the menu at Uptown Blanco Restaurant.
