Happy New Year from KBB

Happy New Year from all of the Keep Blanco Beautiful board members and officers.

Today, Tom Philips, Judy Dorsett, Sue Houdek, and I spent our Tuesday workday taking down the lights and decorations from City Hall, The Byars Building, and Roland and Viola Bindseil Park. It always looks so empty and kind of sad when the lights go out for another year. My home always looks blank. Thank goodness for the Christmas Season so that we can bring that life to our town.

I was at WalMart at 6 a. m. on December 26th to stock up on lights and decorations for 50% off as I always do. I usually get at least 20 boxes of lights but this year there was only 1 box left. The population explosion in this area and the San Antonio area has hit and more people are caring about how their cities and towns look.

Tom Philips and Martha and Wayne Gosnell made a flying trip to Marble Falls last week to get the free used lights from the Marble Falls Trail of Lights. They came back with two pickup loads so downtown Blanco should be lighted more in December. We will continue to work on the KBB plans for a Trail of Lights with the Chamber of Commerce partnering with us.

There was theft and destruction of our decorations. The large lighted deer at the entrance of the Bindseil Park was stolen, and several strings of lights were sabotaged by being taken down or the light bulbs taken out. We want to encourage parents to teach their children not to destroy property that does not belong to them and not to steal.

There is a lot of activity planned for 2008. We will have our 9th annual Trash Off Day and our 2nd annual River Clean up. We will implement the Cigarette Litter Prevention Plan and the Neighborhood Committee will start a plan to help people improve their property, which will, in turn, improve Blanco. Our beautification committee will continue to make downtown beautiful, our education committee will continue to work with BISD, and we will continue to work for better environmental enforcement.

Have a Great 2008!
