I once read the kitchen is the most lived-in room of your home. In stopping and thinking about this, I think it’s true. So if you are designing or remodeling your home you might want to keep this in mind. At one time, people used to talk about the kitchen being so warm.

Thursday evening, October 16, the future of Blanco football was revealed with the combined effort of the 7th and 8th grade teams defeating the Nixon-Smiley Colts, 35-20. The 8th grade team took the field for the opening kickoff with the Colts kicking to the Panthers. Justin Wardlow received the kick and didn’t stop running for 85 yards and a Panther touchdown! Cade Felps rushed for the 2 point conversion giving Blanco the 8-0 lead with 7:46 remaining in the 1st quarter.

For the month of September, the Blanco FFA Chapter would like to recognize senior Logan Dodd as the FFA Student of the Month. Logan is currently the Blanco FFA President and has been a valuable member of the Blanco FFA Chapter for the past four years. The Blanco Lady Panthers kept the heat on in their District 25-3A match-up with the Ingram Lady Warriors on Friday, October 17 winning in 3 sets, 25-14, 25-11, and 25-23. Leading the team in kills was Reagan Rogers with 25, Lexee Jenkins with 11, Abbie Culton and Jamie McClinton each with 3, and Hannah Hulburt with 2.

The Panthers Junior Varsity football team picked up another district win on the road on Thursday, October 16, outscoring the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs, 16-6. Garrett Seales kicked off for the Panthers to start the game. The Blanco defense was solid, forcing the Mustangs to punt on a 4th down. Kailen Webster returned the punt 5 yards.

The October meeting of the Blanco Woman’s Club was held at the home of Pat Clewell. The Legislative Department, consisting of the following members presented the program: Dean Myane, Candy Cargill Wenzel, Millie Jones, Tanya Kasper, and Pat Rogers. The guest speaker was Dr. Buck Ford, Superintendent of Blanco ISD.

Blanco County Association of Retired Educators (BCARE) recently awarded an honor certificate to member Sally Walsh for working the most volunteer hours for the calendar year. Ms. Walsh volunteered 440 hours, the equivalent of 55 eight-hour days voluntarily doing unpaid work. She will be officially recognized at the October 23rd lunch meeting at Pecan Street Grill in Johnson City. The total number of volunteer hours for the chapter was 2,976 hours, or 372 eight-hour days of unpaid work that BCA ...

The Blanco Cub Scout Pack 497 welcomed six new Bobcats into their Pack at the September Pack meeting. The new Scouts are Brett Pilon, Brayden Hull, Cruz Acosta, Callan Drum, Tauren Flores, and Cecil Kershaw. In order to earn their Bobcat badge and begin their Scouting journey, these boys had to learn the Cub Scout Promise, Oath, salute, and handshake.

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has approved a capital credits distribution in December of more than $13 million to current and former PEC members. Kenneth Wede Schuetz, age 73, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014, in Abilene, Texas. He was born on August 1, 1941, in Blanco, Texas, to Kermit and Edna (Hudspeth) Schuetz. He served in the United States Navy for four years and was on high alert during the Cuban Crisis. On May 30, 1966, he was united in marriage to Janice Gelvern in Orange, Texas.

The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society (the “Society”) held its annual fundraising Gala on Saturday, October 18, 2014 on the Courthouse grounds. The Gala was a huge success, with many attendees stating that it was “first class” and “great.” The Gala was well-attended and included such dignitaries as State Senator Troy Fraser and his wife, State Representative Jason Isaac and his wife, and Blanco County Judge-elect, Brett Bray and his wife.
