Friday, May 17th, Uptown Blanco Art Center proudly hosted the annual Blanco County High School Art Show. This youth art exhibition included artwork from Blanco High School, Johnson City LBJ High School and Johnson City Middle School.
In total 34 students participated, presenting over 50 works of art. Pieces featured a wide variety of media, including paintings, ceramic sculptures, photography, and fibers.

Recently the Blanco High School Spanish Club members had the opportunity to visit Peggy’s Playhouse to celebrate Día de los Niños.
Día de los Niños is celebrated within the western hemisphere and in many Spanish –speaking countries to recognize that children are our future.
The Spanish Club members filled up piñatas and passed out bubbles to the children then taught the children to yell “!Dale!” when hitting the piñata meaning “Go on!.”

Blanco Middle School hosted “Fine Arts Night” on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.. Fine Arts Night is an annual celebration of the creativity and talent of BMS students. Many students who participate in Art, Theatre Arts, and Band were given an opportunity to display art work and participate in live performances.
BMS’s award-winning bands played several songs including “Smoke on the Water,” “Firestorm,: “Voodoo Dance,” “Fire Dance,” and others.

In spite of a night of severe weather and widespread power outages, the fourth annual Third Grade Day in the Park went off without a hitch. Thanks to volunteers from the Highland Lakes Chapter of Master Naturalists, Friends of Blanco State Park, and class teachers and sponsoring parents, 85 third-grade students spent Friday, May 10, learning about area wildlife and nature at our state park

The Blanco FFA Livestock Judging Team recently completed a very successful judging season placing 7th at the State FFA CDEs at Texas A&M University. For the year, Blanco’s team ranked first at the Tarleton State Invitational, Hill District FFA and Area VII competitions. In addition, as a team, Blanco also placed 2nd at the South Texas Invitational, 3rd at the Texas State Invitational, 6th at Guadalupe County and 7th at Victoria.

Have you seen the sign? If you haven’t, take a trip north on 281 and in the Buggy Barn Museum Complex you will see the sign. The museum will house the European Theatre of Operation. Rick Sebenoler will be handling the European side of the displays and personnel from the Blanco Pioneer Museum and Dennis Moore are working on the displays for the home front.
In a meeting held on May 8, 2013, Barney Cline was asked about the WWII veterans’ oral histories that the Blanco Library has done.
