Trinity Lutheran Church, Women of the Word, would like to extend a warm thank you to the Blanco community for helping us, through your participation and generous silent action donations, in making our fundraising event held July 13th “migration, birders should too” a success. Lavender Festival begins this Friday, June 13 at Noon. On behalf of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and Lavender Festival Steering Committee, our most heartfelt thanks to the many local businesses sponsors for this year’s event. The success of the festival is due, in large part, to the support we receive from our businesses and the support from our community volunteers and city officials.

Seth Aaron Hepworth is the son of Roger and Marie Hepworth. His Achievements and Activities include; Eagle Scout, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, guitar, ALERT Cadets, active in church at Living Water Fellowship. Seth is graduating one year early after completing his high school requirements in only 3 years. After Graduation he plans to attend Yavapai College in Arizona to major in Advanced Gunsmithing.

Christina Behrends graduated from Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine on May 8, 2014. She is 2007 graduate of Blanco High School and completed the pre-veterinary curriculum at Texas A&M University prior to being admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine. Miss Cassidy Soto, age 8, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Texas Pageant to be held June 13th & 14th at the beautiful Royal Sonesta in Houston. The pageant is held for girls ages 7 through 9. The newly crowned Miss Junior Pre-Teen Texas will receive a $1000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

On Saturday, March 29th, the grandchildren of Ada Cooley hosted a 95th birthday party for her at her home, where guests enjoyed her beautiful patio and yard. Over 100 friends and relatives attended to share birthday blessings with Ada! Delicious refreshments were served along with birthday cake and many sweet desserts. Special guests were Ada’s son, Bill Cooley and grandsons, Kevin and Jason Cooley from Arkansas, and grand-daughter Brenda Witten and husband Randy of Alamosa, Colorado.

Leona Calhoun celebrated her 100th Birthday on Sunday, March 23. Family and friends joined her for a party at Live Oak Medical Center in Blanco. After cake, they released 100 balloons to commemorate the occasion.

Grayson Elrod has received the “2013 Airman of the Year Award” for his work with the 690th Network Support Squadron Detachment 2 at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. After graduating BHS in 2010 Grayson joined the Air Force and did his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX in 2011.
