On November 25, 2014, we gathered together at the First Baptist Church here in Blanco, to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with other men, women and children, from churches in Blanco. There were people from First Baptist, New Hope, St. Ferdinand’s, Trinity Lutheran, Mt. Horeb Baptist, St. Michael’s Episcopalian, and United Methodist churches, all bringing food into one church fellowship hall, to give thanks to God, in the name of Jesus Christ, and break bread together. It just fills my heart wi ...

Read Luke 17:12-18. Ten people with the horrible disease of leprosy were supernaturally healed by Jesus, but only one of the ten actually came back to give Jesus thanks and praise for His marvelous works. Are we like the nine, going on with our day every day, taking for granted every good and perfect gift that comes from God (Jam 1:17)?

Some housewives compiled a list of things for which they were thankful: 1) For husbands who attack small repair jobs around the house because they usually make them big enough to call in the professionals. 2) For children who put away their things and clean up after themselves. They’re such a joy and you hate to see them go home to their own parents.

A soldier that was on the Philippines during WWII reported that even though the area was pretty secure the enemy often tried to infiltrate the food storage area. One such man dressed in GI clothing worked himself into the chow line at noon. The camp cook spotted him and called for the MPs who were patrolling the area.

agf-blanco.com 630 AM KSLR @ 4:30 PM Sat. 1Peter 1:7 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” Peter goes on to say in 4:12, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.” It is clear from these verses, and many others, that our faith as Christians ...

By Mrs. Lawrence Coffee “1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Prov.

God’s Word is SO GREAT! For me, it doesn’t matter who wrote it, or even why it was written or to whom it was sent; I gain by reading it. I learn of God and His ways, and how He shared His love and Wisdom to man over and over and over again.

A wise man once remarked, “Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing.” If you cannot speak with purity, the best thing that you can say, no matter how large your vocabulary is nothing. We read, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29).

I encourage you to read Mat 19:1-9. Verse 4-6 says “And he (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Paul said, “We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and love which you have for all the saints; because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of the truth, the gospel..” (Colossians 1:4-5). A look at Paul’s prayers reveal the mind of a spiritual man.

Some people don’t like the Wisdom of Proverbs, but I hope you make it through this one! Proverbs are great! In the Amplified Version the word ‘wisdom’ is capitalized, and to me that means wisdom is of God, or is God. Solomon was given wisdom of God, by God, and so the wisdom Solomon shared was from God.

I encourage you to read 2Tim 3:8-15. Verse 12 says, “All who live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution”. Last Sunday was National Day of Prayer for the persecuted church around the world. Many don’t realize it, but there is more persecution against Christians in the world today, than in any other time in history.

The First Baptist Church was constituted on Sunday, November 6, 1859, with five members. Rev. Bird was it’s first pastor. A missionary spirit has always prevailed in our church. A former Blanco Baptist Church member, Miss Mary Alexander, served 40 years as a foreign missionary, being imprisoned in China during World War II.
