Marvin A. Haas was born on the Haas homestead west of Blanco, TX on June 28, 1925 to Walter and Clara Haas and passed on to be with his loving wife Nettie on January 11, 2013. Marvin was one of four children. He grew up in and around Blanco and worked at odd jobs until he was drafted into the Navy during WWII where he served his country proudly on battleships and supply ships all over the South Pacific until he was honorably discharged in 1945.

Mr. Alex Soell of Comfort, Texas passed away in the Trinity Mission Healthcare & Rehab in Comfort, on Friday, December 28th, 2012 at the age of 91 years. He was born in Kendall County, Texas on January 26th, 1921, the son of Ira Soell and Therisa Ida Kunz Soell. Served in the US Army during WW II from Aug 24th, 1942 to Oct 27th, 1945 with 86th Fighter-Bomber Group, discharged as a Corporal.

Sybil M. Riba, born July 1, 1915 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas passed away peacefully on December 26, 2012 with family by her side. Sybil lived a wonderful life of 97 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harcrow and Lucy Embrey Harcrow; her sisters, Imogene and Lois; and brothers, Pat and Paul.

Harley Houston Bowman, 60, passed away December 27, 2012 in Blanco, TX. He was born November 17, 1952 in Conroe, TX to Lloyd and Bonita Bowman. Harley graduated from Conroe High School and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with degrees in Sociology and Education. He enlisted and retired from the U.S.

Laura Ann Antonino was born May 25, 1954 in Sharon, PA. She passed away on Monday, December 17th, peacefully, with friends and family by her side. Laura will be remembered as the most kind-hearted woman. She played a motherly role to lots of people. She was a great cook and always gave the best advice.

Services were held on Monday December 10, 2012 in Blanco, Texas for former Holtville resident Clarence Little, who passed away on Monday, December 3. He was born on December 25, 1933 in El Centro, California, and raised in Holtville, graduating from Holtville High School in 1951. He attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, for two years before being called to serve in the United States Army.

Barbara Costigan Thorp, 66, of Rust Ranch Estates, Blanco, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 8th in her home after losing her long battle with cancer. She was a brave, determined fighter to the end and passed as she always wished – with her devoted cat “Tigerio” keeping constant vigil in her arms. Our “Bobby” was a devoted, loving sister and protector, adored by all who knew her.

Ervin L. Willard, 73, a career professional with the US Department of Agriculture, passed away at his home in Uvalde, Texas, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on November 22, 1939, in Aberdeen, Texas. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Uvalde, 220 North High Street at 2:00 PM. Mr.
