Senior FFA member Payton Savarino has been named the FFA Student of the Month for October. Currently, Payton is the 2014-15 Chapter Secretary and has served as an officer of the Blanco FFA for the past two years. She was also elected by her peers as this year’s FFA Sweetheart and was also the FFA Homecoming Representative. Payton has been a key member on several leadership and judging teams that have won numerous district and area titles while advancing and placing high at state.

After a very busy and successful start to the school year with land, range, homesite and plant ID teams all qualifying for state, the Blanco FFA competed in their first leadership development event of the fall as they participated in the 5th Annual Texas State University Invitational Leadership Development Events in San Marcos this past week.

Blanco ISD would like to extend an invitation to veterans and their families to participate in Veterans Day activities on November 11, 2014. At 8:10 AM, the Middle School will conduct a flag raising ceremony and honor veterans. There will be some comments about Veterans Day, and the award winning Blanco High School Panther Band will play the National Anthem and a medley of the service songs. At 8:45 AM, a reception for veterans will follow at the High School library.

The Blanco FFA Land, Range, Homesite and Plant ID teams recently competed in the Area VII FFA Fall Career Development Events at the Joshua Springs Park and Preserve in Kendall County. More than 350 contestants from across the area competed for the privilege of advancing to their respective state contests this coming spring.

A group of students from the Blanco High School Leo Club and National Honor Society participated in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, Austin 2014. The Walk raised critical dollars for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic plan to deliver a continuous flow of life-changing therapies and, ultimately, a cure for people living with T1D.

Students in Laura Salazar’s fourth and fifth grade art classes will be displaying their artwork at an exhibition hosted by the RedBud Cafe from October 30 to November 14. “Students have been exploring the concepts of composition, color theory, the interplay of lightness and shadow, exploration of rendering portraits, and creating with a variety of mediums.” said Salazar. “The fifth grade artists work in more of an independent type of framework.

Members of the Blanco FFA Chapter offered a helping hand to Mrs. Arlitt and her middle school PRIDE class by sponsoring an entomology contest this past Thursday at the BHS Ag Shop. This past Wednesday, the Blanco FFA Chapter, along with the Hill District FFA Association, hosted the Annual Blanco FFA and Hill District Invitational Fall Career Development Events. This marks the 23rd consecutive year that the Blanco FFA has hosted this event, which has become the state’s largest career development event of the fall.

More than 50 members of the Blanco FFA Chapter competed this past Wednesday against each other in four different career development events in preparation for upcoming district and area competitions. In the Homesite Evaluation contest, Robbie Arlitt placed 1st overall, followed by Jamie McClinton in 2nd, Dru Ramirez 3rd, Savannah Kershaw 4th, and Cross Caldwell 5th.
