Members of the Blanco FFA Chapter offered a helping hand to Mrs. Arlitt and her middle school PRIDE class by sponsoring an entomology contest this past Thursday at the BHS Ag Shop. This event served as part of the first six weeks PRIDE activities that the middle school students were involved in and learning about.

This past Wednesday, the Blanco FFA Chapter, along with the Hill District FFA Association, hosted the Annual Blanco FFA and Hill District Invitational Fall Career Development Events. This marks the 23rd consecutive year that the Blanco FFA has hosted this event, which has become the state’s largest career development event of the fall.

More than 50 members of the Blanco FFA Chapter competed this past Wednesday against each other in four different career development events in preparation for upcoming district and area competitions. In the Homesite Evaluation contest, Robbie Arlitt placed 1st overall, followed by Jamie McClinton in 2nd, Dru Ramirez 3rd, Savannah Kershaw 4th, and Cross Caldwell 5th. Blanco High School students Michael Bagley, Clifton Knoll, and Sebastian Thomas competed in the Region 12 Jazz Band auditions held at Navarro High School September 20. The event was sponsored by the Association of Texas Small School Bands. Both Michael Bagley (Alto Sax) and Sebastian Thomas (Tenor Sax and Baritone Sax) were unanimously awarded first chair honors.

This year’s theme for Homecoming is “Red, White and Blue”! The Parade will begin at 6pm on Wednesday, October 15th. Immediately following, there will be a Community Pep-Rally at Panther Stadium. For the second time this month, members of the Blanco FFA Chapter participated in a leadership building event as 24 local members traveled to Fredericksburg High School to take part in the Hill District FFA Leadership Development Camp. Of the 24 students from Blanco, 23 were first year FFA members, or Greenhands. Junior Bret Leigh Nance also represented the local chapter, as well as the Hill District FFA, by serving as a district officer and serving as a facilitator for the event.

The Panther Band competed at the Hill Country Marching Festival in Fredericksburg this past Saturday. Blanco received 1st place in class 3A as well as Best Music, Best Marching, Best Drum Major, and Best Drumline awards. This is the 3rd consecutive year Blanco has placed 1st at the Hill Country Marching Festival.

Each month, the Blanco FFA Chapter will recognize one student for going above and beyond classroom expectations. For the month of August, Dalton Savanich will be recognized for outstanding achievement in his Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. During the meeting of the Blanco ISD School Board of Trustees held Monday, September 8, Monica McCormick was honored for her longtime support of Blanco ISD and it’s three schools. Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford explained to the board McCormick’s importance on the District’s Site Based Decision Making Committee and her sponsorship of the Teacher Attendance Incentive Program through Farmer’s Insurance among her many contributions.

On Patriot Day, the BHS Student Council officers and their sponsor commemorated September 11th by volunteering at the “Welcome Home Ceremony” honoring SPC (Ret.) Justin Lane in Canyon Lake. Blanco County Lucky Leaf 4-H Club held its first meeting of the year at the Blanco Bowling Club. Guest speakers were Tim Moss County Extension Agent and Doug Smith member of the Blanco County Youth Council. Members were given an overview of rule changes for the 2015 County Livestock Show in January.
