Benjamin Pilon, a Blanco resident and filler operator/quality specialist at Real Ale Brewing Company, wondered what to do when a quality control issue at the brewery left him with over 200 full cases of beer to dump out. “Trying to figure out the fastest way to open all those beers,” Pilon said, “I started wondering what the world record was for ‘most bottle caps removed’ or ‘most bottles opened’ in one minute.” The current Guinness World Record for most crown cup bottles open ...

On Friday, September 16, the Blanco Senior Center hosted an open house and exhibited the paintings that were completed by the senior artists during the past six months. The class has grown to over twenty artists, which paint on oils, acrylics and watercolor mediums. Ms. Olga R. Ibarra is a wonderful painting teacher and several members of our community have rekindled a desire to learn to paint, or fine-tuned their techniques.

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, Bastrop County Judge Ronnie McDonald, Bastrop ISD Superintendent Steve Murray, Texas Forest Service representative Bob Koenig, and other officials held a press conference to update residents on the Bastrop County fire. The fire, which began on Sunday, September 4, has burned 34,038 acres and destroyed 1,386 homes.

The Blanco Volunteer Fire Department raised $25,000 last Saturday from donations received at the door, mailed out letters, and the raffle. Some of this money will be dedicated to the building fund to help finance a new fire station. The rest will be used for maintenance and training to keep the fire department up and running smoothly. On Friday, February 25, 2011, three mature live oak trees were planted in the Uptown Blanco Courtyard. Traffic was detoured around the 500 block of 4th Street as a 560-foot crane lifted the trees off flat bed trucks, hoisted them over the wall, and planted them in holes dug in the courtyard.
